Throughout the “Illustration for Motion” course at School of Motion, I developed my digital drawing skills specifically for motion graphics, resulting in an array of illustrations ready for animation.
The Brief
This pitch is for an upcoming ad campaign for a new boutique coffee and donut shop called Normal Coffee. We’re looking for 3 styleframes that feature a male character grabbing a pipin’ hot cup of coffee and a delicious donut.
A frame with a mid body shot of the character.
Frame 1: Mid-Body Shot
VO: When your day is dragging...
Action: A dishevelled looking man holding a basketball under his arm approaches the coffee shop door. He sees himself in the reflection looking tired and out of energy.
A second frame featuring the character’s hand holding a donut.
Frame 2: Tight Shot of Hand
VO: And you need a little pick-me-up...
Action: The man holds the donut and through the steam we see a silhouette of himself jumping to throw his basketball.
A third frame should have a full body shot of the character with his purchase.
Frame 3: Full Body Shot
VO: Order it ahead and get back on your feet...
Action: The man leaves the coffee anyway d donut shop triumphantly, eating his donut with one hand, and spinning his basketball with his left index finger. We see his shadow appear as it throws the basketball into the hoop.
We will also need one additional frame that is a lockup with the logo and coffee cup, or bag of donuts with the logo on it.
Frame 4: Logo Lockup
Get back to NORMAL.
Action: A pile of donuts fall onto the plate with one balancing on the side. The steam whips around the donuts in a circular motion quickly and the logo slowly fades in.
